Surveys show that millions of people today are experiencing frequent sleep pattern disruptions.  And that number is growing all the time.  It’s no wonder.  In today’s rapidly changing and interconnected world, there are arrays of factors that can affect our ability to sleep:

Information OverloadJob, family, technology, traffic, news--we have to try to sort out the information that’s important to us. The mental stress can take a toll, making it harder to focus at times and disrupting your body's mental and emotional rhythms.

Stimulation Fatigue To keep up with the pace, people increasingly drink too much coffee, soft drinks and other caffeinated "energy" drinks). The constant stimulation can lead to stimulation fatigue (sometimes called adrenal fatigue), creating hormonal imbalances and disrupting the sleep cycle.

Time Speeding Up - The #1 stressor people report is too much to do and not enough time to do it. This can create emotional tension, high stress hormone levels, and nervous system fatigue which can disrupt sleeping rhythms.

When people feel overloaded, the stress they accumulate through the day can’t be effectively released by the body and can disrupt hormonal and sleep rhythms.  In fact, a recent study found that chronic sleeplessness is associated with elevated levels of the stress hormone cortisol. The researchers concluded that the goal for sufferers of sleeplessness should be to decrease their overall level of emotional arousal during the day, not just to improve the nighttime sleep.
